Tag Types in Oil & Gas Solutions

The Oil & Gas Solutions layer consists of a number of specialized tag types designed to allow fast and easy configuration of industry specific applications using VTScada. While some of these tags are designed to be created directly by users, others are created automatically by other tag types and are not normally created by system users.

The following chart provides an outline of each of the custom tag types in the Oil & Gas Solutions layer. Those tag types in the left-hand column are major tag types, which are meant to be configured by users. Those in the second column are child tags that are typically configured automatically as part of one of the major tag structures.

Major Tag Type Child Tag Type Notes
Flow Computer Provides a complete interface to a flow computer (a.k.a. EFM device) for logged data, alarms and events, and process data.
  Meter Run*

Parent to a group of tags within the flow computer that represent a single meter/flow run. Logs all of the configuration information for the Flow Computer tags.

*It is a best practice to auto generate the first 11 Meter Run tags through the Flow Computer tag. Additional Meter Run tags can be created manually anywhere in the application.

Alarm and Event Log Captures and logs alarms and events read from a Flow Computer
Driver Redirect When used as a node in a tag tree, appears to be a driver to those tags underneath it. Actually, it redirects them to an existing driver somewhere else in the tree.
POC-Lufkin SAM Well Manager Provides a complete interface to a Lufkin SAM pump-off controller for process data, alarms, setpoints and dynacards.
Dynacard Input Stores Dynacard data from a pump-off controller, triggers reads of said data, and controls the look of that data on the Dynacard Graph page.
Dynacard Reference Used to configure and manage the Dynacard Graph page as a whole.
Dynacard Upload Driver Instructs a Modicon driver on the series of messages necessary to read Dynacard data from the pump-off controller.
PVR Report Definition Referenced by a Flow Computer tag or other PVRSource to define the data (tags, values, text, etc.) that should appear in a PVR report run on that tag.
PVR Report Entity Used to define the data which appears in a single row of a PVR report.
Filtered Tag List If a PVR report is run against a Filtered Tag List tag, it will instead be run again all tags which match the filter.
PVR Report Line Item Allows custom sites or other tags that weren't developed as an explicit PVRSource to be included in a PVR report.
TeleBUS Driver Driver used to communicate using the TeleBUS protocol. This protocol may be used by RealFlo, among others.
Polling Control Used in conjunction with a standard VTScada Polling Driver tag to provide increased options for poll scheduling and for on-demand polling.
Well Test Enables the logging of a number of different tag values as a single well test record. This record can later be accepted or rejected, and optionally some of its values may be edited.
PLC Alarm Enables the VTScada Alarm Manager to follow the state of a function or alarm block in a PLC.
