Copy a Tag
Note that you can select multiple tags in the Tag Browser's main window by holding down the Ctrl key while selecting. Use this to copy, move, or delete several tags at once.
The steps to create a new tag based on a copy of an existing one are as follows:
- Open the Tag Browser.
- Use the Tag Browser’s searching and filtering capabilities to locate the tag whose properties you want to copy.
- Right-click on the tag and select "Copy" from the context menu, or select the tag and click the Copy button at the top of the Tag Browser.
- In the tag browser, locate the destination parent tag and right-click on it to open a menu.
Every new tag must have a parent. This may be any other tag, or it may be the root level (\). - Select "Paste as Child".
If the parent already has a child with the same name, you will be prompted to create a new name for the copy. Do so now.
- Open the new tag's configuration folder to adjust properties as required.
The copy will have a new unique ID and therefore no access to any information logged from the original.
If the Auto Deploy option is selected for the application, then this operation is complete. Otherwise, this will be considered to be a local edit until you deploy your changes.
(*) If copying groups of tags that relate to a single object such as a well, generator, or pump, it's better to create a custom tag type for that device than to copy groups of individual tags. See Design Your Own Tags.
