Licensing

The following is a summary. For detailed information about VTScada licensing, refer to https://www.vtscada.com/software-licensing.

License Classes

The following is a brief guide to the various classes of license. Contact Trihedral Engineering for detailed descriptions of each class. License terms may change. In the event of a difference between the following and the current license terms, the current terms will have priority.

Development Licenses

Anyone who is creating applications will need a development license. (See following note about VTScadaLIGHT.)

Runtime Licenses

An installation with a runtime license may run an application, but has limited ability to modify or further develop that application.

To check whether a license is Runtime or Development / Configuration, refer to the page within App. Config. -> Information

Demo Keys

Trihedral Engineering provides demo keys to customers who wish to evaluate the software before purchase and to students attending our courses (*). These enable all features, but will shut down after a few hours of continuous use and will expire at the end of 60 or 90 days. (* Students who have a development license should use that, not the demo key.)

A customer who starts to create an application using a demo key, then purchases a development license, can continue to build their application using the development license. No further development work should be done under a demo license.

An application created or edited using a demo key must be run once under a development license before it can be used on a workstation with a runtime license.

Changes made to the application using a demo license cannot be applied via ChangeSet to copies of the application running a licensed copy of VTScada. This rule applies to both development licenses and runtime licenses.

License Features

Your license key determines which of the following features are enabled:

Development Runtime version Runtime only version
VTScadaLIGHT version1 SupportPlus period
Alarm Notification System1 Remote Data Access
OPC Server* Application Version Control
Remote Configuration Redundancy Capability1
Server Capability1 Custom Installation
Remote Idea Studio

Your license key also determines the extent of the following features:

VTScadaLIGHT Installations

1 VTScadaLIGHT installations are any that are installed without a license key. The same installation file is used as with a paid installation. Note the following limitations:

  • A maximum of 50 I/O across all running applications.
(Unlimited tags that do not perform input or output.)
  • A maximum of one Thin Client connection.
  • A VPN is required for Thin Client access.
  • VTScadaLIGHT installations can be servers for other VTScadaLIGHT workstations but applications that run on full VTScada workstations (development or runtime license) cannot be networked with workstations that have VTScadaLIGHT installed.
  • The Alarm Notification system cannot be enabled.
  • A maximum of 10 free VTScadaLIGHT installations. OEMs or Integrators who need additional application license packs should contact Trihedral for pricing.
  • The VTScadaLIGHT download does not include the VTScada ODBC driver, which is needed to query VTScada data using a 3rd party ODBC-compatible reporting tool.
