Configure Time Columns

The Report Studio is still under development and has not officially been released. Be warned that code may change such that reports you create with this pre-release trial version might need to be updated in order to continue working after your next VTScada update.
Until the official release, documentation for the Report Studio will open in response to the F1 key but will not be shown in the menu system. To view a table of contents for the complete chapter, navigate to Report Building (Report Studio)
In a new report, dragging a table component to the canvas will automatically generate a Time data set, because timestamps are the first column of a report by default. You are free to change the order of your columns, remove the Time type Data Set completely, or have multiple Time type Data Sets to display timestamps in different formats or to repeat time stamps in reports with a lot of columns.
Create a Data Set
In the Data Set Manager, click [ + ] , select the correct Type from the drop list and give your Data Set a name. You may cultivate a selection of Data Sets in a single report configuration so you should opt for a descriptive name.
Click OK and the Data Set Properties will open on the right-hand side.
If you navigate away and want to get back to this properties panel, click on the Data Set in the manager.
Time Data Set Properties
Delete the Data Set
The trash can located in the header of a Data Set Properties panel will delete the Data Set. If you delete a Data Set that is being used by components or other Data Sets, they will stop working until you revisit their properties and select a suitable replacement.
Before deleting, double check the header: Are you deleting a Data Set? Or a Data Cell?
Name
The name of your Data Set is displayed in this field. To change the name, edit the field.
Header
Text displayed at the top of the column. Defaults to "Date". Replace with any other wording that is appropriate.
Format
The format for time and date can be edited by making a parameterized phrase.
Click on button to the right of the field to open the Parameterized Phrases dialog. Multiple formats are available for selection, or you can enter a format of your own using the available Date Formatting Strings and Time Formatting Strings.
The Time type Data Set is where you configure the column name and timestamp format, but there are other time-related settings to consider:
- The number of timestamped rows that appear in a table is determined by "Time per record" and configured per table component.
- The period of time between points in a line chart is also determined by "Time per record" and configured per line chart component.
- The default reporting period of a report is configured in the home ribbon of the edit tab:

and an temporary report period can be configured from the home tab for ad-hoc reporting.
Using a Time Data Set in your Report
Some Data Sets, like Alarms & Events and Transactions, include available timestamp columns. In such cases, it may make more sense to replace the default time Data Set.
