City of Charlottetown, PE
40 Years Later – VTScada president Glenn Wadden returns to his first project in Water and Wastewater and where the VTScada story began.
VTScada: An Origin Story
In 1986, Glenn Wadden founded Trihedral in Bedford, Nova Scotia, with a vision to revolutionize industrial automation software. The following year, Wadden responded to a unique opportunity in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island: the City needed a solution to manage its water and wastewater systems following the retirement of a key employee. Wadden developed one of the first PC-based SCADA systems to meet this need, marking the beginning of a transformative journey in industrial software.
Supporting Sustainable Growth
The City of Charlottetown remains committed to investing in modern, resilient water and wastewater infrastructure, including millions for distribution upgrades and wellfield protection. Since 1987, VTScada has been a core component of their operational technology enabling operators to easily analyze trends, generate reports, and remotely manage their process. VTScada use now extends to emergency generators and other municipal systems, supporting Charlottetown’s strategic growth and sustainability goals. This long-standing partnership shows how early innovation evolves into a legacy of smart municipal management.
