37 Years of Brewing Success

Moosehead Breweries Limited

Canada’s oldest independent brewery has always embraced innovation and quality. In 1989, Moosehead faced a challenge: maintaining precise cellar temperatures during the beer aging process. Their solution was to implement a sophisticated automation system powered by VTScada (formerly WEB) as the Human-Machine Interface (HMI).

VTScada’s flexibility allowed them to maintain its operator workflows without retraining staff or reprogramming PLCs. Its success stabilizing the cellar led to its expansion into the brewhouse, fermenting, and carbonating departments for batch management and quality control.

This legacy application is a testament to VTScada’s reliability and adaptability in one of Canada’s most iconic breweries.

Simplified SCADA Standardization

In 2016, while upgrading their PLC network, Moosehead decided to standardize on one of their three HMI platforms. They selected VTScada based on its reliability, integrated communication drivers, and application conversion tools.

“…VTScada is by far the most user friendly and superior product. Today VTScada is used for everything from the start of the brewing process, when we unload grain from rail cars, to the final filtering of bright beer and pumping it to the packaging plant. The journey to get here was long but it was also fun as we have done this all in-house.”
